Managing tool engagement for faster removal

TrueMill is a toolpath engine that controls a tool's engagement with the material. This enables the use of aggressive machining parameters, which in turn results in reduced cycle times, says developer Surfware Inc.

This alternative machining method provides a toolpath strategy for generating smooth, fluid tool paths, which leverage the motion-control capabilities of CNC machine tools.

The tool paths produced by the engine are said to be free from spikes or sudden changes in tool load. As a result, machining parameters such as spindle speed, feed rate, depth-of-cut and stepover can be used in combinations that might typically result in material damage or tool breakage, the company says.

A noteworthy aspect of the product is its independence from the machining hardware, including the cutting tools, toolholders, the controller and the machine tool.
